Surrey Artists Open Studios 2008
Surrey Artists Open Studios 2008 (SAOS) is now over. This is the 9th year for SAOS and over 290 artists participated by opening up their studios to visitors between Saturday 7th June and Sunday 22nd June, to experience their craft in the form of completed works and work in progress. The huge variety of crafts included painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, wood turning, stained glass and stone carving to name but a few.
Although there are most definitely other lampworkers within Surrey, I felt as though I was flying the flag for our craft within SAOS, as I was the only lampworker participating this year. Hopefully, based on my wonderful experiences and success, others will join me next year. I therefore took my responsibility very seriously to promote this wonderful craft on behalf of my fellow lampworkers, by giving demonstrations at the torch and offering lampwork for sale.
In addition to SAOS, various taster exhibitions were held around Surrey, displaying collections of works from artists within each district. I had the honour of exhibiting my lampwork and jewellery at the Reigate & Banstead and Mole Valley Taster Exhibition (from Wednesday 28th May until Wednesday 3rd June). I believe that the exhibition went really well and hopefully generated additional interest for the artists who exhibited there.
I'd like to thank everyone who gave Surrey Artists Open Studios 2008 their enthusiastic support and, in particular, to those who took the time to visit my studio. I am there most days, including weekends, so if you'd like to visit again, feel free to send me an email to arrange a time.
